Welcome to Mrs. Tomlin's Third Grade!

I am very pleased and excited to have your child in my class this year. Let's make 2016-2017 a successful year!

The curriculum is aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and the Amherst County Pacing Guide. County-wide tests are administered at the end of each nine week grading period. The final nine week test is cumulative and is administered in May.

Third grade is the students’ first year of SOL testing. This occurs in May. This is the students’ opportunity to show all they have learned from grades K-3. It is very important that each student, caregiver, and teacher take this seriously. We all want your child to succeed. Together we can make it happen. In third grade, students receive letter grades. Please see Amelon’s office staff to sign up for PowerSchool Parent- an opportunity for you to view your child’s grades online.

Homework Folder and Agenda:

Each day, students will bring home a homework folder and agenda. Agendas will be used to inform caregivers of their child's homework, weekly spelling words, and daily behavior. Please view and sign the agenda each day.

Monday Folders:

A week's worth of work will be sent home every Monday in a Monday folder. Weekly newsletters as well as information from the school and/or school division will be sent home as well. Newsletters will also be uploaded to the class webpage. Please view the enclosed materials and keep home all graded papers. Monday folders must be returned on Tuesdays.

Thank you for your support and cooperation. Together we can make a positive difference in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact me by phone at (434) 528-6498 or by email at
