Ms. Duke

Greetings,

I am Ms. Duke, the  Principal at Amelon Elementary School.  It was my pleasure to serve as Principal last school year here at Amelon.  I look forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead for our students, faculty, staff, parents, and community for the upcoming school year and beyond.  I feel blessed to be a part of Amherst County Schools where we believe in “every child, every dayand at Amelon, where we are committed to superior student achievement and giving that extra degree!

Originally from upstate New York, I came to Lynchburg with my family for my upper elementary and high school education.  Upon graduating from Heritage High School, I attended Virginia Tech, receiving a BA degree in Elementary Education.  It was my lifelong dream to be an educator!  While teaching Fourth Grade, in Lynchburg City Schools, I graduated from Lynchburg College with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.   I possess an active Virginia Department of Education Post Graduate Certificate with certification in Pre-K -12th grade supervision and administration. In addition to having taught elementary school for 6 years, I served as an assistant principal for 7 years.  Prior to coming to Amelon, I commuted to Buckingham County, where I was Principal of Fully Accredited Dillwyn Elementary School for 14 years.  I have also helped  the Professors in the Education Department at Randolph College, on a volunteer basis, when needed.  I worked in that department during the 2012-2013 school year as a Supervisor for Intern Teachers in the local city and county schools.

When I am not working, I am an active member of my church, and volunteer with several civic and service organizations.  I enjoy reading, playing “Words With Friends”, watching game shows, reading, and helping others.

I look forward to working with all of the students as well as their parents during the course of this school year.  Looking forward to another PAWsome school year!  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Go Bulldogs Go!
